Abba | A FATHER WHO COMFORTS

A Father who Comforts

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

I absolutely love this scripture. This scripture is one of the many letters from the apostle Paul, written to the church at Corinth. It describes God as a father of compassion and comfort. These are two characteristics that we all love to find in others, so what a blessing it is that our Heavenly Father gives them to us freely.

When I reflect on the many times that I felt like I just couldn’t make it through another day, I was reminded that I am not meant to fight through my troubles and discomfort alone. The same goes for you. God did not create you just so you can suffer through this life by yourself. You are not meant to go at it alone.

Let’s not choose to drown in our own sadness and depression because that is not what God wants for us. He wants us to seek Him for comfort so that He can show us compassion through our difficulty. The most beautiful part of this scripture is “so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”  God wants and needs us to find comfort in Him so that we can pass that comfort along to others. Like a ripple effect. We may not be able to heal the world, but we can help in the healing of our communities. If you don't remember anything else from today’s reading, remember that God wants to comfort us and when we receive His comfort, we are required to pay it forward. We are required to comfort others.

Prayer: Abba, thank you for being my comforter. I pray that the comfort that you give to me in my time of need, I am able to give to others when they need it most. This is a reminder that we are meant to serve others in their time of trouble. A reminder that I am not meant to go at this life alone.I ask that as you comfort me, that you show me how to bring comfort to others. I pray that I can be a present help to those in need.  In Jesus name, Amen.
